Paul Godley's visit to Ardrossan in December 1921 resulted in the first transatlantic amateur radio shortwave radio signals being received in Scotland from North America.

First Contact - NS3L.
Many thanks to Steve (NS3L) for the first QSL received for GB2PG. Currently I am preparing the artwork for the commemorative GB2PG QSL card which will be used for the whole event.

GB2PG Test.
Perfect test conditions.
It was a fine, sunny & unusually warm November day today for our test. Myself (GM0DEQ) & Robbie (GM0SEI) braved the sunny day to test out the H422 rotatable dipole (mounted on a tripod mast) & other radio equipment at the original Paul Godley site. After a couple of hours we were on the air [10 metres SSB] running barefoot with 100 watts.
Three CQ calls later...
Steadily (as if by design) at 12:53 GMT we hear a growing weak stateside station (Stephen) NS3L from PA responding to GB2PG - unbelievably, our first contact was stateside. As the signal emerged out of the QSB it was matched by the grin on both our faces. Recreating history is indeed fun, thanks Stephen.
GB2PG official dates.
Please listen out for us on 3/4 & 11/12 December 2011.
The location.
This is the unchanged view that Godley had back in 1921 with a clear path via the Island of Arran to North America.
regards
